Unplugging

Starting tomorrow morning, I will officially be "unplugged".

No cell phone, no computer.

No Facebook,  no Instagram. No Texting.

Man, this is gonna be hard, but I have a feeling I'm really going to love it. Lately I've realized how attached I am to my iPhone and my computer; I'll check everything I need to check on my phone, and before five minutes goes by I'm checking it again, when I already know that, with the exception of maybe one person's status, nothing has changed. It's gotten to the point where it actually makes me feel sick. So I'm unplugging. Disconnecting so that I can connect more with myself and with God. I need to purge myself of all things media for a while. I need to focus more on just life.

I read this article in Bon Appetit magazine. Hugh Garvey interviewed Elijah Wood about his passion for eating, and when Elijah took a picture of the pizza they were sharing Garvey asked the question, "Are you going to tweet that?" I love Elijah's response. He said,"I used to Facebook almost religiously, but I think we do that too often now. People are experiencing life by way of their phones. It can get in the way of living in the moment."

Now, you're free to disagree with this statement, of course, and I'm sure there are some who have never felt this way, but to me it echoed something that I was already tossing around in my head. I've gotten to the point where it feels as if something's not worth talking about or experiencing if I can't post it on Instagram, or Facebook, or any other social media. Don't get me wrong, I love social media. I love how I can connect with people on the other side of the world within a matter of seconds. I will never stop taking pictures of the food I eat (however unappetizing it may look) and I will continue to post, because I love sharing simple things with others. All I'm saying is, right now I need a break. I need to refocus.

But don't worry, I'll be back. In exactly one week from today, I will be sharing with you all, this:
